Obituaries Kirk and Faye Shoemaker Arizona Kirk and Faye Shoemaker formally of Carlisle will be laid to rest on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 10:00 am in the Avon Cemetery. Betty L McKnight Betty Lou McKnight, 73 beloved wife, mother & grandmother passed away on March 30, 2013 at Mercy MedicalCenter. Funeral services were held Wednesday April 3, 2013 at 10:30 am at Peterson's Betty was born on March 14, 1940 in Iowa City, Iowa to Charles Wesley and Maggie Bethel Harp Ander- son. She was married to Larry McKnight and with this union brought four children, Rick McKnight of Des Moines, Iowa; Janet (Terry) Bunce of Carlisle, Iowa; Dennis McKnight of Indianola Indianola, Iowa; & Brian McKnight of Des Moines, Iowa. Betty loved spending time with her grandchil- dren, Shawn (Audrey) Bunce, Tanner (Kasey) Bunce, Matt McKnight, Katie (Ryan) Grove, Chase Eslinger & Abbey Eslinger & her great grandchildren Blake Butters & Braeden Bunce. She was preceded in death by her four brothers (Infant) Wilber Glenn Anderson, Ralph Anderson, Wayne Anderson, and Wil- liam Geagley, and three sisters; Dorothy Pack, Evelyn Heck and Margery Irving. Siblings that sur- vive her are brothers Jack (Betty Doan) Anderson of Dallas, Iowa and Don (Joyce) Anderson of Chariton, Iowa; sisters Maxine Maxwell of Indianola, Iowa and Marilyn (Jack) Runnells of Chariton, Iowa. Bird Banding at Lake Red Rock Saturday, April 20 (7:00 to 10:00 a.m.) Saturday, May 25 (7:00 to 10:00 a.m.) Red Rock Visitor Center Join Nelson Hoskins, area birdwatcher and licensed bird bander, to experience what the science of bird banding is all about! Mist nets will be set up around the Red Rock Visitor Center to capture small birds which will then be fitted with numbered leg bands to track their movements (if recaptured at some point in the future). Come check out the thrill of seeing live birds "in hand" as they are banded for future research! The activity is free of charge, and no reservations are needed. Girl Scout Cake Decorating Contest and Auction The Carlisle/Hartford Girl Scouts will be having a cake decorating contest and auction 1-3pro on Saturday, April 13th, at the Family Life Center. Categories for the cake decorating are: Traditional, Spring, Food Look Alike, Car- toons/Movies, and Girl Scouts Theme. Winners will be selected in each category with judging done by all those attended. Cakes will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Pro- ceeds from the auction will provide funds for future Carlisle/Hartford Girl Scouts activities. Come and join the fun of judging unique cakes and bid on your favorite to take home and enjoy!
