Carlisle Area Historical Society www.carlisleareahistory.org Pictured is Anderson Myrick, 1855-1931. Longtime resi- dent of the Palmyra-Hartford area. His wife, Caroline "Cally," sitting on the porch. Daughters Hallie, Eula and Hazel. The girls may or may not be correctly identified. A fourth daughter and son, Clyde, are not pictured. "Cally" was short and very hard of hearing. People would roll up a newspaper and put it to her ear in order to talk to her. On her 75 th birthday, she boasted that she weighed "75 pounds on my 75 th birthday." It was rumored that in the 1920's Hartford locals would .gather in the basement of Anderson's home, located near the Hartford Cemetery, for a meeting of the Liar's Club. A few members were Fred Canapy, Jim Freen, Coy Craig. Other members remain anonymous. Obituaries often contained "flowery" descriptions. This one added a personal footnote to the story. "Anderson, when found, had suffered a paralytic stroke and was un- conscious. He was carried into the house and Dr. Sperow was called. His wife had been in very poor health and it was thought that she would not survive the shock of the sudden death of her husband but with the care of the doc- tor and her daughters she was reyived." The four daughters were listed: Mrs. D. D. Rawson, Mrs. Glen Hunt, Mrs. Blake Ford, and Mrs. Walter Fleming. Clyde had made his home in Idaho. Anderson and Cally are buried near the front entrance of the Hartford cemetery. From the family history of Marie Blake Gelbaeh. Letter to the Editor I have lived in this town for 40 years and I can't under- stand why our juvenile delinquents get all the publicity and our good kids can't even get a police escort out of town for state softball. Doesn't make good sense to me. Do we have to reward bad behavior while we ignore good? Proud to be from Carlisle.
