Page Four The Carlisle Citizen Thursday, August 16, 2012 $1mP b Iowa Youth Leadership International Carlisle Student - Marissa Kephart Marissa Kephart, a jun- ior at Carlisle High School, was selected by the Iowa Chinese Association under a sholarshp pi:ogm:o: participate in the Iowa Youth Leadership Interna- tional (IYLI) program held July 27 - August 11, 2012. The IYLI awards scholar- ships to students pursuing leadershil visions. awarded a Wells Fargo scholarship to attend the program. Programs fo- cused on various State of iowa and Dallas County Iowa government depart- ments and also included business and industry fo- cus with programs at Iowa Realty, Kemin Industries, Bankers Trust, Principal Financial Group, Rain and Hail Agricultural Insur- ance, and Pioneer Hi-Bred International. In addition, social activities have in- cluded an I-Cubs game, Farmer's Market in down- town Des Moines, picnic at Rick Kimberly's farm (the :host of Chinese VP Xi Jinping), and a visit to the Iowa State Fair. The pro- gram included educational requirements of completing an essay and presentation project to the group prior to IYLI is to facilitate and ex- change ideas across an eth- nically diverse and socially responsible group of young international students. During the program, Marissa and her family, Marsha and Michael Kephart and son Kyle, hosted five Chinese stu- dents participating in the program during the two week program. The closest guess was Isaiah's of 5, 503. The presi- dent of the Library's Friends Group, Sharon Brummer is presenting Isaiah with a Target gift certificate. CON- GRATULATIONS, ISAIAH// The adults filled out "Bingo" sheets this summer, with each one's name going into a drawing for 2 mugs, 4 totes, a Kindle Fire and Carlisle Chamber Bucks. Thank you to all our participants. We sure had a fun summer! We had a good turn-out for our Craft Time on Friday, August 3 ,d. The supplies for the six crafts the children enjoyed creating and all of our fabulous summer prizes were provided with grant funds from General Mills, and the handy paper bags to put the treasures into were given by Carlisle Foods. Volunteers for our craft event were: Frank Burton, Karen Johnson, Courtney Carter, Ashley & Reyanna Spratt and teachers from ABC Wildcat Daycare. Everyone had a grrrrreat time....THANKS all around!! Storytimes will begin the week school begins; August 21 will begin our weekly Toddler Time from 10:30 to 11:00 AM. August 22 will begin our weekly Preschool Storytime, also from 10:30 to 11:00.
